This week I’m rounding up the top destinations you need to check out for 2018 as recommended by our very experienced Captains. Time to book that vacation you’ve been dreaming of!
The Bahamas
Recommended by Captain Michael Lewis, Il Capo
There is a reason this area is so frequented by yachts of all sizes. The crystal clear waters let you view what lies beneath up to 30 feet below. The abundance of sea life and quiet bays ideal for anchoring, and white sand beaches are just some of the reasons people keep returning to the Bahamas.
As Lewis comments “the waters are like being in a huge swimming pool. The Exumas Cays in the central Bahamas are very majestic with many destinations to anchor with beautiful views. Compass Cay is probably my favourite cay in the Bahamas.”
Amalfi Coast
Recommended by Captain Tony Borg, Firefly
Cruise past cliffside villages bursting with colour, anchor in quiet fishing villages and stroll along cobbled streets washed in history. The Amalfi Coast offers the chance to step back in time a bit when the world moved slower, people stopped to enjoy the little things in life, all while sipping on some excellent Italian wine.
Borg recommends “Amalfi is a beautiful place to be, as is Positano with a pretty bay to anchor and also a wonderful view with loads of colourful buildings and some great restaurants. I must also mention Capri which stands as an icon for western Italy and hundreds of boats visit each year. Don’t forget Sorrento, or Naples which is the best place in this area for the guests who like shopping. I cannot forget to mention the Thermal Baths on Ischia which most of my guests enjoy visiting.” With so many different stops on offer, a cruise around the Amalfi Coast will not disappoint!
Banda Islands, Indonesia
Recommended by Cruise Director Sebastien, Dunia Baru
Looking for something truly exotic and off the beaten path for your next vacation? Indonesia has over 17,000 islands that you can escape to and explore without the hassle of too many tourists or overrun resorts.
Sebasetien highly recommends the Banda Islands. “They are very secular islands; a haven of peace in the middle of a rough ocean, and the centre point of the Spice Route. These islands have been some of the most coveted on earth for centuries. The atmosphere is very unique there. It is a really relaxed place, with friendly locals and colonial architecture, right at the base of an active volcano. And, beside being purely beautiful, it also happens to be a top spot for diving.”
Hopefully these destinations can serve as some inspiration for your next vacation!
