Dunia Baru officially opens Learning Center in Raja Ampat

Share

We have an excellent update for y’all today from one of our beautiful yachts based in Indonesia. The Dunia Baru Learning Center officially opened its doors in Raja Ampat last week and we couldn’t be prouder to be a partner with all at Team Dunia Baru! Read on for the full coverage.

Last week saw the grand opening of the first Learning Center in the village of Sauwandarek on the island of Mansuar in Raja Ampat. Designed by Indonesian architect, Popo Danes, the center has been built using sustainable materials and utilizing local builders and traditional techniques.

Owner Mark Robba has explained why he felt the need to open the centre:

“Raja Ampat is a very special place for me and my family as well as for Dunia Baru and her charter guests. The scenery is amazing; and the people have always been so kind. Every time I leave Raja Ampat I long to return. It means a lot that I am able to give back to the area with this project. It is my hope, and intention to ensure so, that the Learning Center will help to provide an economically viable and sustainable future for the families living here, in harmony with the environment.”

The Center will be an educational hub for residents with access to a donated laptop, as well as future planning for residents in various professional training programs. Further initiatives include implementation of a better waste management system for the Sauwandarek community, helping to improve the health and wellness of both residents and the sea. Dunia Baru’s wider dreams for Corporate Social Responsibility include their ‘Lighting the Future’ campaign, bringing solar-powered lighting to a number of villages that have no electricity supply. They happily commenced this journey by giving light to the island of Marandan, home to approximately 125 people.

The team will also be donating a percentage of all future charter revenue from bookings in Raja Ampat to help fund the center’s growing needs. We are currently running a $1000 off promotion to all charters booked by November 30 (but travel anytime!) within Indonesia.
